A couple of days ago I saw “Alatriste”, which is supposedly the great blockbuster of Spanish cinema. What did I think of the movie? Well, a little disappointing.
The film seems, as a college classmate said, like a two and a half hour trailer, since they try to summarize 30 years of Alatriste’s life in two and a half hours, adding patches and time jumps that completely lose the plot thread, which is already quite poor.
It is worth highlighting the historical moments such as the surrender of Breda and the clear allusion to Velázquez when taking the photograph. Javier Cámara’s performance, yes, is worthy of a Goya, and possibly the best of the entire film.
In short, it is not a marvel, although it also has nothing to do with everything seen previously (by me at least) in Spanish cinema.
